Orion are proud to be working again with BigSis, who are leading the way with sustainable insect control systems, providing a cutting-edge chemical-free agricultural pest control.

BigSis technology cuts the cost per hectare of the sterile insect technique (SIT) by up to 90%, creating a farm-scale solution that is more effective than chemical insecticides as well as benign to the environment. Orion have just completed their second project for BigSis, involving the planning, designing, and fitting out of their new insect rearing and processing facility in Reading.

The works consisted of:

• Testing, surveys and validation reports on all existing services
• The main works comprised of the design and construction of a “Contained Area” within the warehouse space, consisting of new walls and ceiling/roof. Walls included double glazed viewing panels, with all surfaces finished in white food-safe laminate
• New chiller and ventilation
• Full lighting design and installation of LED fittings, including timers & separate circuit controls
• Design and installation of new sub main with power supplies to single & and three phase outlets
• Striping out of pre tenancy redundant equipment and refurbishment of the ancillary spaces and WC’s, including new lighting, heating and floor finishes
• Internal decorations to the entire building
• Installation a new fire alarm system
• New water heaters and plumbing to suit the new layout including installation of a filter system to wash pot area
• New resin floor coating in Production & and all open Warehouse areas
